Pilates Coach Mat 1 Certification Information

Mat Pilates Instruction

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum GED or High School Diploma required.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must have and maintain a CPR/AED certification.
  • You must have completed Foundations of Movement  or approved equivalents. (*see purchasing options below)

Course Education Level: Intermediate

Continuing Education Credits: 1.8 NAFC, 1.8 NESTA

How it Works:

To earn this certification…

  • You must complete all course modules.
  • You must take a written examination with a passing score of 80% or higher.
  • Time to Complete: You have up to 18 Months to complete the Examination Process.
  • Course Access: Continued access with updates available.

Certification Process:

  • Your NAFC Pilates Coach Mat 1 Certification is valid for 24 months. During that 24 months you must complete continuing education prior to your renewal date to qualify for re-certification.
  • Recertification is required to keep you up to date with industry standards and practice. You must complete and submit 15 hours (1.5 NAFC credits) of continuing education in a 24 month period of time prior to your renewal date and complete a re-certification application to be recertified.

Mat 2 CertificationIn Pilates Coach Mat 1 students develop, execute, and teach the historic exercises of Pilates’ Mat work training. Specific instruction on modifications and adjustments, as well as safety and teaching strategies are detailed. Through the education gained in this course, you can teach a variety of exercises that can be adapted for practically any level client.

Anatomy and Physiology Course Objectives

After completing this course you will be able to:

  1. Identify 11 Systems in the body.
  2. Describe the types, characteristics, structure, and contractibility of muscle tissure.
  3. Describe the structure and shapes of bones.
  4. Discuss the musculoskeletal system as a lever system and the 3 classes of levers in the human body.
  5. Identify the types, structure, and movement potential of joint in the human body.
  6. Recognize the role of flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, and the energy systems used in exercise.

Pilates Coach: Foundations of Movement Objectives

After completing this course you will be able to:

  1. Describe the Foundations of Movement for the Pilates method.
  2. Demonstrate how to teach the correct form for these exercises.
  3. Identify core stabilizers and their functions.
  4. Explain the history of Joseph Pilates and the development of the Pilates method.
  5. Analyze the importance of the Pilates principles and how they are applied for optimal results.
  6. Describe safety and how to modify exercises for an individual or in a group setting.
  7. Teach and utilize these exercises in personal training and group fitness settings.
